During December, Sean and I looked after a friends house and dogs, Coco and Chippy. In no time at all, Coco AKA Houdini, lived up to her nickname, escaping under the fence or through the hedge at any opportunity. Chippy, on the other hand, was more motivated by his stomach! Candy in a handbag? YUM! Stale bread from the rubbish bin? Delish! Coco and Chippy provided hours of entertainment. Particularly on Christmas Day, after we told the story of their Christmas Eve antics to family and friends.

Coco-and-Chippy-Christmas

The Fright Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, and strewn through the house,
were some bits of a box and two chocolatey mouths.
Coco and Chippy zoomed up to the door,
behind them, the wrappers were hard to ignore.

Where'd it come from? Oh, what a mess.
"Isn't chocolate poisonous?" We started to stress.
Like true millennials, to Google we called.
What we read was not good; it's not healthy at all.

"To the vet!" We decided. "Let's get them there quick!"
Leads on. To the car. "Before they are sick!"
We arrived at the clinic, bundled dogs through the door.
Chippy was so excited, he peed on the floor!

Up came the chocolates, and dog biscuits too.
Still in the foil; red, green and blue.
Salted Caramel and Praline, whole and intact.
Strawberry and Mocha, still perfectly wrapped.

Nineteen chocolates were found in the mess.
Sixteen from Chippy, and Coco the rest.
The danger passed, as night turned to day.
Empty tummies and bank cards were all that remained.

While lessons were learnt in an expensive way
We're lucky that's the only price that was paid.
To dog owners, sitters and lovers I say,
Be sure to keep chocolates locked up and away!
