After a very comfortable night in a Mont Tremblant hotel we checked out and drove into town for breakfast at a local café. It’s very obvious that English is a second-class language here; the French menu was beautifully typeset and printed on a coffee bag, while the English translation was on a laminated piece of paper. While we sat there eating our sandwich and bagel it started to pour with rain again, which was disappointing because we thought that the bad weather had passed.

We called in at a grocery store to stock up on some essentials. We’ve been trying hard to cut out dairy from our diet, but it’s really hard to find a good substitute for yogurt. There’s lots of coconut based options, but they either have a weird texture or a very coconutty flavor. We also find it hard to get good muesli; most of the shelves are full of ‘granola’, which is sugary and baked or roasted. We didn’t meet our goals on either of these two items, but we did find some fresh wild blueberries, each only about 5mm in diameter, which taste amazing.

From here we drove in the still-pouring rain onwards to our campground in Parc national du Mont-Tremblant. The road wound upwards through the mountains for an hour until we arrived at the park entrance. Even though we’d already confirmed our campsite and printed off the required label for the car before leaving Toronto, we stopped in at the registration office to check if there was any information we should know. The lady there sold us a bundle of wood, gave us a map with some trails that she recommended, and told us that we were one of the only people staying in the campground that night.

It was still raining and cold, so we popped open our tent and lay inside reading our books for most of the afternoon. Katie added the new duvet that we’d bought yesterday into our duvet cover, which when combined with the 7cm mattress in our tent made for quite a comfortable and cozy little den. We played cards for a while, and eventually decided that it was too much effort to set up the tarp to cook under so just had home-made guacamole and corn chips for dinner.
